Level 1: each part of the file is checked and only the damaged sheets are removed; the rest stays intact (formatting, charts, images, tables). Level 2, if level 1 isn’t enough: the workbook is rebuilt from its data (values, formulas and number formats) and colors, borders, fonts, images and charts are lost.

Limitations
- There’s no "text-only rescue" like there is for Word/PDF: if no row in the file can be read, there’s no reliable way to rescue unstructured tabular data — it reports that it couldn’t be repaired instead of making up a result.
